6. 3. 2019 – Build a DIY Reverb

Tired of choosing between 1001 reverb plug-ins and the spring in your Fender Twin?  Come to Common Ground and walk out three hours later with a reverb unit that you can count as a personal friend.  You’ll solder up a little amp kit and a contact mike, connect a transducer, and start sending your sounds through whatever scrap you’ve brought along: cymbals, gongs, hubcaps, mixing bowls, Slinkies, guitar strings, autoharps, snare drums…they all make wonderful personal reverberators.  You’ll never mix alone again. For a taste of what to expect visit http://www.nicolascollins.com/texts/TapeOpReverb.pdf — but we’ll go so much further.  Taught by Nicolas Collins, the author of Handmade Electronic Music – The Art of Hardware Hacking.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO BRING:

  • Material that will be transformed into your reverb: cymbal, gong, hubcap, sheet metal, mixing bowl, brake drum, Slinky, bedspring, string from guitar or bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, autoharp, snare drum…
  • Something to play back your music files, with appropriate output cable terminating in a 3.5mm plug (i.e., your phone).
  • Earbuds or headphones.
  • Electronic hand tools if you have them (soldering iron, wire cutters and strippers).  Common Ground can provide for those who don’t.
  • Optional: small loudspeaker, wine cork.
Note: Please let us know if you can’t make it max. 24 hours before the workshop, otherwise, we can’t reimburse you.
